Concord’s History and Why We’re Proud to Serve the Concord Community
The foothills of Mount Diablo were originally home to the Chupcan band of Bay Miwok people. Spanish explorers Pedro Fages and Juan Crespí traversed the area in 1772. In 1834 Don Salvio Pacheco received the Monte del Diablo land grant from the Mexican government.
Pacheco, his son and son‑in‑law established the town of Todos Santos on the grant in 1868; it was renamed Concord the next year. Early Concord remained small, with about 300 residents in 1879, but the population doubled by 1905 and boomed after World War II when new subdivisions were built.
Today Concord is the largest city in Contra Costa County with about 123,634 residents. Its central location offers easy access to San Francisco, Oakland, Silicon Valley and the wine country, and transportation includes BART, buses, Amtrak and ferries.
Concord boasts a vibrant downtown, varied housing and parks. We’re proud to serve Concord’s residents and businesses.
