Pleasanton’s History and Why We’re Proud to Serve the Pleasanton Community
Spanish soldier Pedro Fages explored the Amador–Livermore Valley in 1772, and José Amador settled there in 1826. During the Gold Rush the village of Alisal (later Pleasanton) became a trading stop for miners traveling to the Sierra.
Augustine Bernal built an adobe house in 1850 that still stands today. John W. Kottinger arrived in 1851 and named the town Pleasanton (after Civil War General Alfred Pleasonton; a clerk misspelled the name). The Transcontinental Railroad reached Pleasanton in 1869, spurring growth and transforming it into an agricultural hub with vineyards, hop fields and ranches. Residents incorporated the town in 1894.
In the 1960s and 1970s farmland gave way to housing and businesses; the Hacienda Business Park opened in 1982, attracting corporate headquarters. Today Pleasanton is known for excellent schools, parks and a strong economy.
With its historic downtown, farmers market and annual events, Pleasanton offers small‑town charm with urban amenities. We’re delighted to serve Pleasanton’s residents and entrepreneurs.
