We follow a careful, step-by-step process to replace a toilet, ensuring a secure, leak-free installation and addressing any underlying plumbing issues.
Here’s how we typically go about it:

Preparation and Measurement
The plumber measures the existing toilet’s rough-in (distance from wall to floor bolts) to ensure the new toilet will fit properly. We gather necessary tools, parts, and protective materials to keep the workspace clean.

Shutting Off Water and Draining
The water supply to the toilet is turned off at the shut-off valve. The plumber flushes the toilet to drain the tank and bowl, then uses a sponge or towel to remove any remaining water.

Removing the Old Toilet
The water supply line is disconnected from the tank. Bolts and nuts securing the toilet to the floor are removed. The old toilet is carefully lifted off the flange and set aside for disposal The plumber removes the old wax ring from the flange and inspects the flange for damage, replacing or repairing it if needed.

Preparing the Area
The area around the flange is cleaned thoroughly to ensure a good seal for the new toilet. If there is any subfloor damage or rot, it is addressed before proceeding. A new wax ring or seal is placed on the flange.

Installing the New Toilet
The new toilet is carefully positioned over the flange, aligning the mounting holes with the bolts. The plumber presses down to set the seal and ensures the toilet is level, using shims if necessary. Bolts and nuts are tightened alternately to secure the toilet to the floor, being careful not to overtighten and crack the porcelain

Reconnecting and Testing
The water supply line is reconnected to the new toilet tank. The plumber turns the water supply back on and allows the tank to fill. Multiple test flushes are performed to check for leaks and ensure proper operation.

Finishing Touches
The base of the toilet is caulked to seal it against the floor and prevent water intrusion. Bolt caps are installed, and the toilet seat is attached if not already in place.

Clean-Up and Final Inspection
The plumber cleans up the work area, disposes of the old toilet, and reviews the installation with the homeowner.
